nosler reloading data - The 223 Remington was original designed as a military cartridge in 1964. It is based on the 222 Remington case, being slightly longer, and with a greater powder capacity. It has a 100 to 300 fps velocity advantage over it's parent cartridge. Rifles with a faster twist ( 1:7) should be limited to around 2800 fps, as it will disinetgrate the smaller 55 gr. bullets. A heavier bullet , such as 62 or 70 gr. should be used with the faster twist rifles. On the other hand if the twist is slower ( > 1:7 ) you should use lighter bullets to obtain the full potential of this excellent varmint and plinking caliber.
